Relationships Education

In the DfE’s document, the purpose of relationships education is to ‘put in place the key building blocks of healthy, respectful relationships, focusing on family and friendships, in all contexts, including online. This will sit alongside the essential understanding of how to be healthy’.

As of September 2020, it is now compulsory for all Primary Schools to teach Relationships Education.

Relationships Education is the statutory objectives which include learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of human development, relationships, sexuality, wellbeing and sexual health. At Bowesfield we aim for all children to have an understanding of a range of positive and healthy relationships. We safeguard children by teaching them to identify and report harmful behaviours as well as learning about the impact of relationships on their emotional well-being and mental health.

We currently teach Relationships Education using the MEDWAY scheme. The scheme builds on the knowledge taught in each year group to ensure children have a comprehensive understanding of different relationships and how their bodies change.
